Orlando, Florida
Orlando is the major city in central Florida, and as of 2006, the estimated population is more than 220,000 residents. It is the sixth largest city in all of Florida. Orlando’s name came to be in the late 1830’s when Orlando Reeves, a soldier, died in the area fighting against the Seminole tribe. It came to be known or referenced as Orlando’s Grave, and later just Orlando. The population of the city grew during the reconstruction era and the city was officially incorporated in 1875. Its gilded area was from 1875-1895 when it became the center of Florida’s citrus industry.
Orlando has many different attractions for your enjoyment. There are many malls including the Florida Mall and the Mall at Milllenia. For a more cultural side, there is the Orlando Museum of Art, the Orlando Science Center, The Morse Museum of American Art, The Orange County Regional History Center, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum, the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Central Florida. Other attractions include the Blue Spring State Park, Gator land, Bok Tower, Church Street Station, and Disneyworld.
